Kitty's picks - Most Underrated Movies

In no particular order are:

True Romance

It's like Bonnie & Clyde with a lot more drugs, violence and Tony Soprano's in it. What more can I say?

Blow

It's a biopic of a guy named George Jung from Mass. ("Boston George")He sells drogas makes a lotta money and loses it all and ends up in jail forever. But it a great ride. Johnny Depp is the star and Penelope Cruz plays his coke head wife, doing lines wile pregnant. Classy.

Malcolm X

Such a powerful movie. This is the movie that showed me how great an actor Denzel Washington is. Malcolm X was a complex person. He went from a scheming, thieving, drug addict to a disciplined leader in the Nation of Islam to going to mecca and then coming back forever changed for the better.

Do The Right Thing

"D mutha f*cka D!!" This should definitely be the hook in a rap song. Sometimes, I just wanna make an album so I can do stuff like that. The racial tension was crazy in this film. Nothing like riots, heatwaves and pizza shops.

Requiem For A Dream

Marlon Wayans in a serious role. Harry's arm, "Ass to Ass", Mama and the refrigerator.. Lawd chile it's crazy. Seriously. It's so crazy that if you haven't seen it, I recommend you watch it with someone so you're not bugging out in your living room talking to the tv by yourself. It's a movie about addiction and what it brings you the end.. Tragedy

City Of God

Remember a few years ago when everyone was on that Scarface ish (again) and you couldn't go any where without seeing someone w/ a Scarface tee? Well aside from it being wack and overdone, I always wondered why they weren't walking around with Ze Pequeno (Lil ze) or even Mané Galinha (Knockout Ned) These characters are soo T-shirt worthy!!And in my humble opinion, Scarface was more of a gangsta fairytale. Just a made up story that glorified drugs and violence and had some Italian guy playing a Cubano. I was always surprised that Latino actors/actresses weren't mad about that. (We'd a called Al Sharpton or something haha!)

Anyway, City Of God is based on a true story. Which makes it that much better just because. The acting is great and visual of it all is very gritty but still slick. The story lines fall into place so you can follow all of it without getting confused. It's ghetto, it's smart, it's violent, and best of all it's honest.
The one thing about this movie that some people won't like is the subtitles. But reading is fundamental, So I give it 5 stars. Looking at my list, it appears I have a thing for drug movies and reckless violence.. Dang. LOL!!

Your thoughts? Have any picks that didn't make the list??
